This was a HAPPY sight for me yesterday. The last apricot on the tree. Thanks to all who came by and took some home with you. I've never seen so many apricots on one tree in my life. I've never picked them up off the ground for so many days & weeks...and so late into the year!
Today... I am dehydrating tomatoes. It smells great.
you will have to share some of your canning tips with me. I started canning for the first time this year and I am pretty pleased with how things are turning out. Of course my cherry jam turned into more of a cherry syrup but i am learning.
I love the smell of dried tomatoes. When I've done them, I'd slice them at night (big fat 1/2" slices), then put the drier out in the garage to run. In the morning, I'd bring them in, rotate the trays (top on the bottom, bottom to the top) then run until evening. Then I'd peel off the dried tomatoes, put them in ziploc bags, and repeat.
One thing I learned is that they don't last forever in ziiplocs. I wonder if they'd last longer in those metallized vacuum storage bags.
Okay, I guess I need a lesson in dehydrating. Do you have a dehydrator? I have a convection oven so I'm trying to use that but can't find much info online about what exactly to do. I've sliced a bunch and put them on cookie sheets and put it on the dehydrate mode. Just don't know if I need to turn them halfway through, or for how long to leave them in.
I also want to try some fruit leather but don't know if I can put it on wax paper and put it in my oven or not....
And, by the way, I gave you an award over at my blog.
Oh, and I know somebody who drives down your way almost every day...maybe he could drop some pears off. Because even after chopping and slicing for hours on end today I still have a TON left!

I have tons of Asian Pears that I should probably dehydrate before they spoil, but really have no idea where to start!
Holy Smokes! I didn't know you could grow Asian pears in Utah. I love them! I need to come get a few.

By the way, I LOVE your main page image of the old building across from Clifty. It's neeto bandito!
Happy day!
I wonder if you could just get some silica packets to put in the ziploc bags, to suck out excess air and mosture.

NIcole, I do have a mighty fine dehydrator. I have no idea how you would do it in a convection oven, other than what you would find on 'google'
If you want to borrow my dehydrator - feel free to have someone stop on by.
