More fun Ashcraft memories

I'll start out with some of those embarrassing pictures that every family has. We're all familiar with them, the 'naked kid in the tub' pictures. I will not name the children, to protect the innocent. But WE know who we are.

What a great tub. What a great house that was at 247 East Main.

Here's Randy 'bellied up to the bar' for breakfast. Mom would tell you that first thing in the morning, Randy would be in the kitchen ready for breakfast with a smile on his face.

Donnetta's 6th birthday. Notice the yellow "MY PICTURE BOOK OF SONGS" book on the piano. Every family must have had one of those books! I learned a lot of the songs from this book at Maxine Lamprecht's kindergarten. The illustrator of the book was a lady by the name of Erla Young, and in 1997 she republished the book in a limited collectors edition. I was able to meet Erla and get one of the republished books down at the McCurdy doll museum in Provo. That was a fun day too.

Another cake with 6 candles. This one must be for Cheryl. (who celebrated another birthday this past week) When looking at this picture during our family slide show, we always had to comment on Randy, who looks like he is ready to 'dive into' the cake, and Donnetta, who just wants a bite.

This must be some sort of family party or reunion that was held in Aunt Dorothy & Uncle Grant's back yard. The thing that I love about this picture is all the women in their aprons. Aprons, which fell largely out of favor with the rise of the women's movement in the 1960s, are now enjoying a renaissance as a retro-chic fashion accessory. I have several retro apron patterns that I have purchased, but I haven't made one yet.

I'd like to know where this picture was taken. It reminds me of the side of my Grandma/Grandpa Slack's house in Twin Groves. The more I look at this picture, the more things I notice. The adults are: (L-R) Uncle Boyd, my Mom, Helen Fielding (Uncle Boyd's future wife). I think she must be a future wife, because she sure looks all dressed up like she's trying to impress him. Uncle Boyd was one of my favorite Uncles. He passed away several years ago from cancer. Aunt Helen then served a mission for the LDS church to Canada. Soon after returning home from her mission, found out she had cancer. She passed away about 6 months later.
The children in the picture are Donnetta, Randy & Cheryl. If you look real close, you see me laying in front of my mother in a blue hooded outfit.
Notice Uncle Boyd's pants rolled up. (60's). Notice the aluminum drinking cups. Notice the glass gallon jug of root beer off to the right behind Cheryl.

Randy & me. I can still remember this picture being taken. It was during the construction of our new house. We are sitting in the closet in mom & dad's room.

Cheryl, with Gary & Kim. Cheryl was dressed up for something, maybe some party at Mutual. I had a bunch of these cool plastic wigs that I got for Christmas, Gary is sporting one on his head. OH! I just noticed he is also wearing a dress! That's what you get when you have older sisters.

Me, taken at the same time as the previous picture. I was either playing dress-up with Gary, or I'm ready for the 24th of July round-the-block parade. Check out the beautiful flower garden in the background. I remember my mother working out in her flower gardens all summer long and the flowers were beautiful.

Who remembers Mother Goose Land? It was located in Island Park, on the way to Yellowstone. I remember always wanting to stop & go thru, usually we would just stop & talk to Bugs Bunny who was standing out front. This picture shows grandma Slack & my mom standing out front. Behind is Bugs Bunny, he would talk you you & ask you questions. (kinda like the talking Christmas tree at ZCMI)

We did get to go into Mother Goose Land one time. I don't know if this is the time, or if these are just more pictures taken out in front.

Gary with the 3 bears. I think the sign on the wall to the left says that admission is 50 cents. Years later we found out that Mother Goose Land was built and run by the Strobel family that moved into our ward (Mother Goose Land was long gone by then).

As usual, love LOVED it :) And btw, I love aprons! So glad they are coming back in style. Maybe I'll have more luck now than I have had in the past trying to find myself one.

I love the picture with Gary all dressed up. :D. Thats just funny. Reminds me of the picture I have of Emily, Katie and Ryan playing dress up, and Ryan all decked out in makeup. Sure was a good sport.

Fun, fun pictures! In that picture of the picnic, Randy looks a little bit like Daniel.

Thanks I really enjoyed that.

I was thinking that Randy looked like Jacob! Or I guess more appropriately, Jacob looks like Randy.
