We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Keokuk Friday nite, and as usual, when you stay in a motel that you pay more money for, the internet connection is crappy. It just wouldn't stay connected last nite. I even went back down to the desk and she gave me a booster to use, I don't think it was any better. I did complain when I settled up this morning, so she gave me $10.00 off the bill. Score!
Here are some pictures from Friday's long ride across Indiana & Illinois:

I don't know about the corn being as high "as an elephant's eye", but it is definitely taller and Grandpa & me.

This was located in the town of Lincoln, Illinois

In Arthur, Illinois (another Amish town) we saw a sign off the side of the road advertising buggies for sale or trade. There were several parked under a tent. Of course that had to be a Kodak moment for us. Here is Kimball trying out some new wheels.

We stopped here last nite for a bite to eat. 15 points to anyone who can tell me the town where this famous Hardee's is located. (hint: We found out about the famous Marge & Russ campground at this place)

Any of you who have been to Nauvoo will remember the Joseph Smith Academy building that sat just across the street from the temple. Well, this is the view across the street from the temple now. We found out they tore down the old academy building last October. There are no plans to rebuild anything on the spot. President Hinckley wanted the view un-obstructed so it will just be grass in the future.

We drove over to the Nauvoo State Park, saw this turtle trucking along so we stopped for photo's.

Another famous Nauvoo landmark. Especially brings back memories for Cheryl & I.

Kimball, Cheryl & I paid the Community of Christ $2.00 each for a tour of their buildings. We were the only ones in our group & had a wonderful young lady as our guide. Well worth the money paid this time around.

At the end of Parley street, overlooking the Mississippi. Kimball helping Joseph tell Brigham Young which way is west.

Kimball's shirt sporting his collection of stickers for the day.

Saw this sister missionary before the pageant tonite. She looked familiar to both Kimball and I. After the pageant I saw her again, so I went over and talked to her. Found out she was at Carthage last year when we were here, so she was the missionary that took us on a tour of the jail. Or as she put it: "When you stand an look at somebody's face for 1/2 hour, you are bound to remember them". She had only been out about 3 months last year, she goes home this December.

Best for last! Drove back up to the temple tonite after the pageant & took this picture. I think this is my favorite temple. I love it at night when it is all lit up!

Yay! Bonnie's back. And it was well worth the wait.
Awesome pictures and story. Your temple photo is my favorite (Kimball in the buggy is cool too). You should go pro and travel all the time.
Just like that Rick Steves dude. :-)
Very Pretty temple picture!
That's funny about remembering that sister missionary. Nauvoo and Carthage! I think her mission sounds way more cool that Spokane, WA.
Yeah I was going to say something about the Corn, but you stole my thunder. It's certainly higher than my-eye.
and the laundromat...I'm running late this morning, but since I had a shower late last night I'm just going to skip my traditional morning shower. Seeing that picture though kind of makes me want to find a big sink and...
What's Lincoln doing reading while he's driving the covered wagon? Is that like texting while driving?
Now that is a beautiful picture of the Temple!!
I can't believe you're coming home today.
That wagon is huge!
Ah yes, the Nauvoo laundromat. Brings back a lot of memories from past trips. That is one nice pic of the Nauvoo temple. Maybe you can enlarge it and put a copy on my wall, yours too. Echos here on the travel channel scene. You could be the next Samantha Brown. Thanks for keeping us updated with news and comment! btw chaski = Tyler FYI
Love your picture of the temple. It is beautiful. I don't know where marge and Russ campground site was located, but I sure do remeber staying there. I have very fond memories of that place! :)
